Heavydrive installs glass elements indoors and outdoors
Opened in 2020, Zott's headquarters in Mertingen, Bavaria, was built according to plans developed by Munich-based architects Baumschlager Hutter Partners. Back then, Heavydrive fitted the panes and has now also replaced several glass elements.
The new building needed various glass elements weighing up to 500 kilograms, with installation methods varying between outward-facing placement, outside-in fitting, and inside-out installation. The versatile Heavydrive installation equipment handled the task with ease. Its non-marking tyres allow it to move freely indoors without damaging floors, while ensuring reliable grip on rough outdoor terrain.
Using the compact GMG 350 glass installation machine, the panes – weighing up to 350 kilograms – were moved safely and positioned without any problems, even beneath the overhang. During the construction of the new building, various glass elements weighing up to 500 kilograms had to be installed under challenging conditions – both indoors and outdoors, in some cases beneath overhangs and from various installation positions.
The equipment used included the compact GMG 350 glass installation machines and the MRK 144.0 and MRK 158.0 assembly cranes, in combination with the VSG 600 K and VSG 900 KS suction systems. The flexible installation aids ensured the glass elements were moved safely and precisely, even in confined spaces and under difficult conditions.
The assembly cranes truly came into their own, particularly when working indoors: thanks to their compact design and non-marking tyres, which enabled them to move without leaving any marks. At the same time, the high-performance suction systems and assembly cranes ensured the safe handling of the large-format glass panes, both indoors and outdoors.
The combination of compact glass assembly devices, high-performance assembly cranes and flexible vacuum lifting systems ensured that all work was carried out safely and efficiently. Despite varying installation requirements and challenging site conditions, the glass elements were installed and replaced with precision and delivered right on time.
