Star architecture calls for professional assembly team

Heavydrive installs glass façade in the new exhibition hall of the Nuremberg exhibition and fair centre

NuernbergMesse unveils their new exhibition hall 3A just in time for Frontale 2014. The extravagant architecture by Zaha Hadid Architects with its spectacular glass façades lives up to the World's Leading trade fair for windows, doors and façades. The complicated installation of this unique glass façade was carried out by the Donauwoerth-based company Heavydrive GmbH.

Tricky construction job

The 8,000-square-metre large exhibition hall comprising 3,290 tonnes of steel and 2,750 square metres of glass was completed within just 18 months. Complex precision work done within tight deadlines– this called for the professional assistance of a glass and installation expert such as Heavydrive GmbH.

The installation of the curved convex and concave panes at what are often dizzy heights is not possible using conventional building cranes. This is where Heavydrive comes in with its innovative specialized equipment: The different assembly cranes MRK 126.0, 158.0 and 195.0and the overhead manipulator VSGU 1200 K were developed for extreme construction jobs and can transport any pane – no matter what weight or whether curved or flat – to their destination. With this equipment, our professional crane operators can install the large, wave-like curved panes even under eaves or overhangs without any problems.

Problem solving to perfection

"Thanks to our extensive and diverse experience, we know exactly what is important when installing glass panes. With this knowledge, we develop and improve on our equipment continuously, meaning we are always armed for tricky construction jobs such as that at the NuernbergMesse", emphasizes managing director Guenter Uebelacker.

Thanks to Heavydrive's reliable technology, the façades of the new exhibition hall 3A were completed on schedule in early 2014. The various innovations can be admired at Heavydrive's in-house trade fair at the main plant in Donauwoerth on July 5, 2014 and at the glass trade fair Glasstec 2014 in Düsseldorf.
