Panel installation on a container building in Portugal
Efficient façade installaion whilst construction work continues
Things really took-off in Carnaxide, near Lisbon (Portugal): Heavydrive assisted with the installation of façade panels on a container building for a data centre project. The installation involved a total of around 200 panels, each weighing up to 200 kilograms (441 lbs), which were fitted to a façade up to 20 metres (65.6 ft) high.
A key challenge was to ensure that internal transport routes and escape routes remained clear at all times so as not to hinder the ongoing construction work. The container building consisted of numerous individual components, such as frames, cooling modules, power skids, cable trays and doors, which were delivered at different times. Temporary staging areas required flexible arrangement without obstructing safety zones or access routes.
The installation was accomplished using the powerful MRK 195.0 assembly crane with an assembly tip, as well as the VSG 450 K6 and VSG STU 500 K vacuum suction systems. The combination of crane, vacuum technology and beam made it possible to lift the panels safely and position them precisely. Even in confined spaces, the panels measuring up to 6,000 × 1,000 millimetres (19.7 × 3.3 ft) could be installed with precision.
The Challenge:
Coordination of staggered deliveries and storage of modular components while ensuring that transportation and evacuation routes remain clear during the ongoing construction process
The client was Leadership Datacenter GmbH; the delivery was handled by ADK Modulraum. Thanks to the coordinated scheduling, internal transport routes did not overlap and safety-critical areas remained clearly separated. The installation was carried out continuously, without disrupting the rest of the site operations. The planned deployment was scheduled to last between six and eight weeks.
The project in Portugal demonstrates that even in the case of complex container structures and ongoing material flow, large-format façade panels can be installed efficiently and safely using suitable lifting and vacuum technology.
