Precise lifting operations with the Heavydrive counterweight beam and bucket adapter
As part of a modern housing development project, Heavydrive supplied a custom lifting solution for the installation of complete carbon-neutral timber façade elements, some of which were installed beneath a 4.2 metre deep overhang.
The prefabricated timber façade elements were between 3,500 and 5,100 millimetres wide, 2,650 millimetres high and 500 millimetres deep. They weighed between 650 and 1,100 kilograms, depending on the version. The elements had already been fully pre-assembled at the factory: Glazed windows and lift-and-slide doors were integrated into the timber-frame structure, as was the complete thermal insulation system. On the construction site, the elements were then joined together using tongue and groove joints to ensure a permanently low thermal bridge and thermally tight connection.
The VSG Konter 2000, fitted with a counterweight beam extended to 4.5 metres, and a bucket adapter were used. Extending the crossbeam was necessary to ensure that even the façade elements at the building corners beneath the approximately 4.2 m deep recessed balconies could be accurately installed. In addition, cantilevered slabs had to be taken into consideration. During the construction phase, these were supported by temporary props and had to be safely bypassed with the traverse.
The bucket adapter used has a 450 millimetre wide contact surface, allowing it to be manoeuvred underneath the façade elements. As a result, the position of the centre of gravity is not a critical factor. At the same time, the sturdy steel bucket bridges even the delicate, floor-level thresholds of the lift-and-slide door systems. This allows even these delicate components to be transported and installed without damage using Heavydrive technology.
"Flexible lifting solutions are in demand, especially in modular construction. The combination of the counterweight crossbeam and the bucket adapter enables precise work here, even with long reach lengths and under low overhangs", explains Günter Übelacker, Managing Director of Heavydrive.
The work on this pioneering housing development project, designed by the architectural consultants ap88 Architektur, was carried out on behalf of Sieveke Holzbau GmbH and was scheduled to take around 45 working days.
