Installation of façade elements over 10 metres long

At the beginning of May, BSV GmbH inaugurated its new company premises in Schlanders, located in South Tyrol’s Vinschgau Valley (Italy). The building was designed by architects Marx/Ladurner. The headquarters of the manufacturer of doors, windows, façades and sun protection systems extends over a length of 120 metres and narrows to a sharp point. Special Heavydrive systems were used to install the 10.7 metre high façade elements.

The customer originally wanted to install the sawtooth façade using a single suction system because the Heavydrive systems can be flexibly adapted to the pane size. However, since the Finn glass panes and the wide glass elements had to be installed in alternation and the conversion after each installation takes time, two suction systems were used in the end: The VSG 3500 KMH with a span of 8.5 metres installed the 2.3 metre wide and 2.8 tonne panes, while the VSG 1000 KL9-4 installed the narrow façade elements with a width of 0.57 metres and a weight of 750 kilograms.

The two-system solution ensured that all glass panes were installed safely and accurately within just two days. The customer had originally scheduled five days for the operation.

The challenge:

To install the sawtooth façade, panes over 10 m high and Finn glass panes had to be installed alternately.

The solution:

The VSG 3500 KMH with a span of 8.5 m and the VSG 1000 KL 9-4 for the 57 cm wide Finnglass panes
