Heavydrive suction systems used in Spain for the world’s largest diagonally-curved pane

Heavydrive GmbH delivered the VSG 2000 KR vacuum suction system to Barcelona (Spain) to be used in the set-up and dismantling of a curved pane measuring 2.5m tall and 9.7m long with a thickness of 15mm.

The 1.3 tonne curved pane was produced by Spanish client Cricursa, one of the world’s leading producers of extra-large curved and laminated panes. The pane was loaded into a wooden crate for glasstec 2018 and transported to the international glass trade fair in Düsseldorf.

Heavydrive GmbH specialises in suction systems with a capacity of up to 6 tonnes and a reach of up to 24m. The VSG 2000 KR vacuum suction system was specifically developed for concave and convex curved panes weighing up to 2 tonnes. The system enabled the operator to securely grip the gigantic curved pane by remote control. It was tricky: the 1.3 tonne pane’s bent shape had to be held horizontally and carefully lifted out so that it would not become warped under its own weight. The accurate and seamless movement of the VSG 2000 KR and the total rigidity of the system enabled the exhibition piece to be lifted safely and set into the transportation crate.
