Heavydrive places glass elements at the Skypark Business Center Luxembourg
Complex installation in windy conditions and below a projection
Heavydrive installed flat and curved glass elements weighing up to 1150 kilos (2535 lbs) at the Skypark Business Centre at Luxembourg Airport. Both the windy weather conditions and the tight project schedule presented a challenge.
The Heavydrive VSG 1250 KR vacuum suction system was used in combination with the VSG counterweight beam, which was attached to a construction crane. The VSG 1250 KR is designed specifically for convex and concave panes and so the façade elements were safely suctioned on. The counterweight beam balanced the panes in the windy weather conditions. As the lifting platforms had no resistance, the glass elements were guided below the projection, which was up to 1.6 metres (5.2 ft) deep, without any muscle power. Heavydrive mini cranes were also used in some places, as the hook block of the construction crane could not get close enough to the façade.
As strict access conditions apply in the airport area and the team only had a narrow time window for the installation, the assignment was carried out under extreme time pressure. Thanks to the ingenious Heavydrive solution, up to 12 façade panes were installed within one day without any problems.
The new Skypark Business Center at Luxembourg Airport was built according to a modern and sustainable concept. It offers, among other things, flexible workspaces and a hotel. The new business building is directly connected to the airport building, so that you can walk directly from the multi-storey car park to the terminal without getting wet. Heavydrive installed the façade elements when the terminal was built around 17 years ago.
