Heavydrive installs modular window elements in Munich's creative quarter

In the north of Munich, near the Olympic Park, a creative quarter is emerging – an area designed to combine living and working with art, culture and knowledge. Special Heavydrive systems were used to assemble the prefabricated balcony elements, including the glazed door leaves.

The 1300 kg (2866 lbs) façade panels, complete with frames, had to be safely picked up and placed under a 1.85 m (6.1 ft) overhang. This was achieved using the Heavydrive VSG 500 counterweight beam with a load capacity of 500 kg (1102 lbs), which can be attached to any construction or truck-mounted crane. The counterweight beam was connected to a specially manufactured angle bracket. The fork adapter had a 2.4 m (7.9 ft) high frame. This meant that the modular components could be weaved in and placed beneath the balconies without getting damages.

The creative quarter is being developed on the site of the former Luitpold barracks, based on designs by Teleinternetcafe and TH Treibhaus Landschaftsarchitektur. The approximately 20-hectare site will be home to 820 apartments, a primary and secondary school, a university, buildings for cultural, creative, social or commercial use, as well as public green spaces.
