Heavydrive fits 1.4-tonne panes in the Jewish Museum in Frankfurt

The Jewish Museum in the centre of Frankfurt am Main underwent a complete refurbishment and extension to include the modern ‘Lichtbau’ area. Heavydrive’s specialist equipment for extremely large and heavy panes was used to assemble the gigantic glass façade elements.

The glass panes measured 7.2 x 3 metres and weighed up to 1.4 tonnes, and all had to be placed under a one-metre deep overhang from the outside. The experienced device operator safely lifted the panes with Heavydrive’s VSG 2000 KMH suction system. This vacuum suction system has a reach of up to 6.7 metres and a lifting capacity of up to 2 tonnes. In combination with the VSG 3500 Konter counterweight system, the glass elements could be moved vertically under the overhang. The counterweight traverse has a lifting capacity of up to 3.5 tonnes, so it had no problem balancing the 1.4-tonne panes. The traverse can be attached to any crane with at least a 4-strand hanger.
