Heavydrive develops new C-adapter for installation under protrusions

New system used to build the Chamber Music Hall in Kronberg (Taunus, Germany)

Various Heavydrive assembly devices were deployed to build the Chamber Music Hall in Kronberg in Taunus. The new Heavydrive C-adapter was used to set the outer panes under the roof overhang.

This adapter can be hooked to any construction crane and has a load capacity of up to two tonnes. The horizontal arms can be extended to match the depth of the protrusion in just a few simple steps. "The C-adapter can be adjusted in all directions as required, making it possible to circumnavigate corners and ceiling edge protrusions without a problem“, explains Günter Übelacker, Managing Director of Heavydrive.

To handle the 1.9-metre-wide and 2.6-metre-high façade elements, as well as the panes used for the music hall in Kronberg measuring up to 6 metres wide and 2.6 metres tall, a VSG 2000 KMHL vacuum suction system was attached to the C-adapter and securely suctioned on the 230-kilogram panes. The installation engineers were then able to safely insert the glass elements beneath the almost one-metre-deep roof overhang at a height of nine metres, with a great deal of accuracy.

In addition, the installation engineers placed 6.3 by 3.2 metre façade elements weighing up to 1,700 kilograms using the Heavydrive MRK 158 and MRK 195 assembly cranes and the VSG 2000 KMHL vacuum suction system. The compact yet very powerful mini cranes were securely extended, in sometimes extremely confined spaces, making it possible to accurately install the glass panes beneath the overhangs, some as deep as 2.8 metres. Due to the extremely confined construction site conditions, the two cranes handed off the panes to one another. It would not have been possible to use another type of crane, such as a truck-mounted one, for example.

Curved panes, 7.1 metres wide and 2.3 metres high, were installed inside the Chamber Music Hall using the VSG 600 KRQ vacuum suction system. This system has a load capacity of up to 600 kilograms and was developed specifically for convex and concave panes with an inside and outside radius upwards of 450 mm. The HDL 1400 glass transport trolley was used to transport the large panes to the installation location inside the building.

"We work closely with the customer as early as the planning phase. This allows us to come up with the optimum installation solution and develop custom models for the construction project, if that's what it needs", explains Günter Übelacker. Heavydrive assembly and transport devices made it possible to set all panes inside and outside the new music hall in Kronberg, on schedule and without incident.
