Dubai: Assembly work in one of the largest shopping centers
Heavydrive installed 14 m high curved panes above the main entrance of the Dubai Mall
Dubai in the United Arab Emirates is home to the world's largest and most visited retail and entertainment destination, the Dubai Mall, which opened in 2008. It houses over 1200 stores and is part of the Downtown Dubai project, which involves the architecture of a new central district designed to give the impression of an old Arab city.
Above the main entrance, 14 m high and 3 m wide curved panes weighing 4,000 kg were to be installed under a 5.8 m projection.
The Heavydrive solution for this installation job in December 2016: the VSG 4000 KR vacuum suction system for curved panes with a load capacity of up to 4,000 kg in combination with the VSG 6000 counter traverse, which meant that the panes could be placed under the 5.8 m deep projection without any problems by an experienced Heavydrive equipment operator.
The shopping center is located right next to the world's tallest skyscraper, the Burj Khalifa (829.8 m high), which can be seen in the background of our pictures.
The challenge:
To fit curved panes measuring 14 m tall and 3 m wide and weighing 4 tonnes under a 5.8-m-deep overhang
The solution:
The VSG 4000 KR suction system with the VSG 6000 Konter counterweight beam
